This paper presents insights into the response and failure of medium density fibreboard (MDF) panels subjected to air-blast loading. The MDF are representative a cheap, potentially sustainable, structural material that is commonly used in homes buildings. Simplified computational simulations were design series experiments elucidate range responses failures within MDF. blast-loaded exhibited multiple surface cracks, substantial in-plane cracking throughout less dense parts cross-section, fragmentation failures. transient results show exhibits peak displacement many times greater than permanent deformation, internal damage due reduced stiffness panels. These findings provide unique detailed will prove valuable blast protection engineers considering effects explosive detonations inside buildings containing furnishings, any increased risk secondary injuries flying debris. experimental data can be by modellers validate events future.
